fashion friday: one shirt, three ways

One of the keys to stretching your wardrobe is being about to take a single piece and stretch it as far as you can! Your challenge for the week is to take one piece in your closet and figure out a few more ways to wear it!

(all pieces from madewell)

pieces from target

Here’s your challenge this week, Ladies — take a piece you almost always wear the same… and mix it up! Wear that sweater dress with jeans, layer that button down under a sweater and mix things up!!

what i wore this week 1.11.12

Once again, we have what I wore!

I wore this shopping with Jo-Lynne around Philly. It was freezing, freezing that day, so I confess that I chickened out
and wore my boots when it was time to go.

sweater: really old boyfriend cardigan from target {similar here for 40% off} {and here for 30% off with code NOW30}
top: ruffled shell from LOFT {similar here} {and here}
jeans: the skinny by 7 for All Mankind {buy here} {similar here}
heels: old, old aerosoles {similar here}

This was a bum-around-the-house day I mean work day.  I was working from home. It was another super dooper cold day, and this jacket (that I picked up on super clearance at Jennifer on the Avenue) is unbelieveably warm!

jacket: grey jacket {similar here} {and here}
top: long sleeve tee from old navy {buy it here}
jeans: old comfy flares from target {buy it here}
shoes: pumas {similar here}

This was Saturday, when I was running errands, watching Beauty and the Beast in 3D with the kiddos and enjoying a rare 60 degree day in January! I threw on the blue scarf as I was leaving the house and it was a bit chilly, but I think I like it. Are two pops of color too many, do you think?

sweater: cardigan from LOFT – found this on clearance for only $5 {buy it here for 30% off with code NOW30!}
top: also picked up on clearance from LOFT – on the same day, actually {buy similar here for 30% off with code NOW 30}
jeans: distressed straight leg jean from LOFT – also on clearance, but 2 years ago {buy similar here for 40% off}
belt: yellow patent skinny belt from Target {buy similar here}
scarf: really old – no idea where its from! {buy similar here}

jcrew sale!

Like I said yesterday, its been a long week! But of course I still managed to find some lovely things to share with you today!!

J Crew is having a major clearance sale and when you use the code SHOPNOW you get an additional 25% off! J Crew has such fabulous basics and perfect trend pieces – but it is so pricey that now is the perfect time to pick up a few pieces!

This velvet schoolboy blazer is perfect for fall and winter – so fun. And with the sale its down to $75 (from $198!) Black would be so classic, but I have to admit… that dark blossom is fabulous!!

This Suzette blouse is darling. I love the tie neck, the detailing on the front… so feminine, but would look so polished with a blazer or pencil skirt.

Oh. My. LOVE these shoes!! And love the $33 price tag!

ooo – I wish I had a place to wear this! Only $50!

Enjoy!

what i wore – 1.4.12

I had a week that was half chic, half helping someone move (or the opposite of chic).

Wednesday my husband and I went on a date (WOOT!) so I actually got a little polished up to go out. I’ve been dying for an excuse to wear my new shoes, so I planned the rest of my outfit around them 😉 These are my only jeans that are long enough to wear with these super high heels!

shirt: Old Navy, several years ago {similar here}
jeans: Dojo by 7 for All Mankind {buy here}
shoes: Cecila by Sole Society {buy here}

Thursday was spent working from home, so I was just looking to be comfy while drinking massive amounts of coffee.

sweater: Loft, last year {similar here – and its 40% off}
jeans:
Dojo by 7 for All Mankind {buy here}
shoes:
my old favorite wedges from Target {buy similar here}

On Friday, we went downtown to Reading Terminal Market, so I wanted to be comfy and warm! My Ugg Bromme boots are amazingly cozy – perfect for walking around on a chilly day! These jeans are pricey, but WORTH EVERY PENNY. They are the most comfy jeggings ever – and the true miracle is they actually stay up, unlike most jeggings that slip down your bum when you bend over.

sweater: drapey open cardigan from target – I love the shape (and price) of this cardi! {buy it here}
top: really old coral tshirt from old navy {buy similar here}
pants: the skinny jean by 7 for All Mankind {buy it here}
boots:
Ugg Bromme Boot {but it here}
scarf: Lycra Viscose Scarf by LA Purse {buy it here}

Saturday through Monday was dominated by moving my in-laws into a new apartment, so I was looks super chic in sweatshirts, yoga pants, sneakers, baseball caps and other standard “moving fare” like messy ponytails and general griminess.

jacket: Old Navy Fleece {buy it here}
shirt: my husband’s old college tshirt {buy it here}
pants: Old Navy yoga pants {buy it here}
sneakers: New Balance {buy it here}

fashion friday: blow that christmas money!

Happy Fashion Friday! Hope everyone had a wonderful week – I really enjoyed unplugging a bit this week and spending my time alternating between spending quality time with the kids and sleeping off this monster cold. There’s been some great sales this week and I’ve been trying to decide the eternal after-Christmas question… What should I buy with my Christmas money?

My first thought – as usual – is boots. (I’m sure you’re shocked.) I’ve been wanting a pair of Cognac boots…. These are pretty amazing, I think.

Okay. I know I just said I wanted cognac boots, but these are totally awesome.

I love, love love this top from Anthropologie!! Isn’t that amazing??

Or maybe I should just get the sweater I’ve been drooling over in Free People for about 2 months…

Decisions, decisions… What are you spending your Christmas money on?

I also linked up with the lovely ladies over at Monday Mingle!

fashion friday: sole society

Love shoes? Of course you do! Who doesn’t love shoes?
(Well, my three year old, but whatever.)

Anyway, I will so be joining Sole Society. I went up to NYC yesterday to attend an event with Sole Society and fell in LURV with a capital L with these shoes! I’ve never joined a shoe club before – most I’ve seen have, well, ugly shoes. But if Sole Society has a problem, its too many awesome shoes.

First, sign up for free. Then, take the quiz to see your personal picks by fashion stylists. And get your shoes picks for the month! Basically, Sole Society is like a Shoe-Of-The-Month club. You can click here to see how it works, but basically, for $49.95 a month, you get a new pair of shoes of your choice from a selection picked for your style and preferences. Best part is, you can skip a month whenever you want without penalty, and shipping and returns are free. So you can sign up, only buy when you want and enjoy tons of designer quality shoes that are exactly your style!

My style? Classic, Understated, Elegant. I “radiate elegance and grace and are the ultimate in classic femininity.” They nailed me. Did they peek in my closet and see all the ruffles?  😉 Check out my picks of the month:

Those bright flats? Fabulous. The booties?? PERFECTION. I already own shoes that look exactly like those tan strappy heels and how perfect would those yellow platforms have gone with my outfit last night?
photo by @BarbaraJones

But girls, meet the cecila platform pump… the exact shoes I picked out last night!! They are much more comfy then you would think – and surprisingly easy to walk in. Loving the wood – and that fab bronze pattern!!

Aren’t they FANTASTIC?!?!?

Which would you have picked?

disclosure: we attended this event as guests of sole society and were provided with a gift bag. As always, all opinions are my own.

fashion friday: holy cow, its december

Where did 2011 go? Did anyone see it as it zoomed by at the speed of light?

Anyway, it’s December now and I’m in full out getting-ready-for-the-holidays, in-laws-moving-back-in, general-craziness mode. Yesterday I cleaned out the two linen closets and the mud room. You would not believe what I found in there, even if I had taken pictures.

Darn it. Now I wish I had taken pictures. Oh, well. When I’m in that kind of cleaning mood, you just better look out and get out my way lest you be sorted into the Keep, Trash or Donate piles accidentally. I probably would have put the camera in some organized and labeled new spot and then promptly forgotten where I put it.

Next up, I’m planning a bake sale this weekend and organizing a dinner for 200 people. Because, as you may ave noticed by now, I’m insane.

ANYWAY, this post is supposed to be about FASHION. (Remember? Really! Look at the title! Its true!)  So lets stop talking about whatever I just wrote and check out some yumminess!

If I had a fancy-ish party to go to this year, I would buy this gorgeous satin ruffled dress from Old Navy. This is a lot of style for under $50.

I also have to confess that I do not own winter boots. I own boots – OH, I own bootS with a capital S – but not any that are actually designed for, well, weather. But these little babies might change my mind.

Oh. My. Yes. PLEASE. Please can I have this for Christmas? PLEASE!!!?!?! (Or could Anthropologie have a 80% off sale or something?)

Humm… Do I like this? I think I like this. With tights and boots, maybe?

And finally… SWOON!
Oh, sorry. Think I must have fainted at the sight of that STINKING AMAZING BAG.

Happy weekend, folks!

fashion friday: eye candy

This week, I spent a lot of time on Polyvore for my fashion blog, All Things Chic. It is seriously so much fun. Since I’m crazy busy getting ready to travel tomorrow, here are a few of my favorite creations this week! Enjoy!

Early in the week, I did a post on How to Wear Blazers. You have a blazer, right? Instant update to your wardrobe and you’ll wear it forever, even if you don’t spend a ton of money on it. (See my blazer bargain in What I Wore Wednesday.) I love the look of denim, a blazer and a scarf:

classic blazer

I also wrote a post about my current obsession with gray and brown. I know they used to say you couldn’t wear them together, but please, please ignore it. They are both neutrals and they look fabulous together!! I am completely, totally in love with this outfit:

cozy perfection

Then, yesterday, I shared a post on how to wear brights. I confess that I own approximately zero brights. But I found such cute stuff that I really want to add something. If I had an office job, I would be all over this. Isn’t it cute? I love how the polka dots in the top add some fun… and the red skirt! Perfection! (Note to self: buy red skirt!)

polka dots for the office

Which is your favorite look?

fashion friday: athleta love

This week an Athleta store is opening in Philly.

I am quite excited about this.

Athleta is amazing. They have gorgeous clothes that last forever – they can be pricey but if you hit their sales you can seriously clean up. My current Athleta crushes?

The Lila Wrap Sweater is gorgeous. If I didn’t already have about 10 sweater wraps…
I’ve had a serious crush on this sweater coat for like two months…

Hello, Gorgeous and Cozy.

Why yes, I’d LOVE to get these boots!

If I had the money, I would snatch up this Flurry Jacket up so stinking fast…

Are you an Athleta fan too?
