finished!

Here’s the quilt I made. For some very strange reason, WordPress has decided to stop downloading the bottom quarter of all the pictures. Whatever.  Click for a closer view.
I like it — its this cute “Aunt Grace” fabric (which is retro 50s patterns). Two alphabet patterns, a duck pattern and a puppy pattern. Perfect for a little boy.  Boy quilts should not have flowers.

If this is STILL not working, try here.

sweetness defined

Big Sister came downstairs decked out in her finest array of necklaces, rings, hair bows, the works.
BS: Mom, do you like my make-up?
Me: turning around quickly Did you use Mama’s make-up or your make-up?
BS: My make up. (Phew)
Me: Its beautiful. You look like a princess.
BS: No, I don’t want to be a princess. I want to be a beautiful mommy like you.

I love having little girls.

excuse me while i rant

I just discovered that ABC has changed the time that Lost is on. Why? Why? Why would they move it from 9 to 10? Isn’t 9 o’clock a better time slot? I’m annoyed. First they take a 3 months ‘winter break’ then this. Grrr….

Its February? Already? Seriously?

I’m still here this week, although sadly I am lacking extra time to waste on the computer. My husband is traveling somewhere down south (Alabama? Georgia?). And I’m making a baby gift for a friend that needs to be finished by her shower on Saturday night, which I am also helping to plan. I’m in charge of game. Because I’m so much fun. I’m also making these and these. And possibly these or these. Lots to do. I’ll post a picture of the quilt I’m making for her when I finish it. Hopefully sometime before 6:30 Saturday night 😉

Quote of the day:

as I’m telling my kids to move faster because we are late and we need to go NOW!
Big Sister: “Wow, Mom! You’re talking really loud! Maybe you should use your inside voice.”

money? or location?

Last night, Husband came home and told me that he was offered a job by someone that afternoon. I said, “Yeah, whatever.” He says, “I’m serious. How do you feel about Des Moines?” Long story short, he was offered a sales job in America’s heartland, a position which usually has quite a large salary. As in about 3 times what we see now.*

So here’s a question to throw out there:
Would you move somewhere crazy** in exchange for a large salary?

I have some experience with this, because my husband once considered a job here, living two hours from the nearest city, in the middle of the Brazilian rainforest. He tried to convince me to move our family here by telling me I would have a maid and a cook and a pool (“Really? Does it come with its own anaconda?”). We still live in Philly, thankyouverymuch. The price was certainly not right for that  move, but I’m still open to moving somewhere new…..

*Before my mother and sister-in-law have heart attacks, we are not moving to Iowa. He said thanks for the offer, but this is not a good time for us to move.
**Please do not be offended if you live in Iowa. One person’s crazy place could be Iowa and another person’s crazy place could be New Jersey and anothers could be China. We’re all different!

such a bargain

This is a fantastic site to buy cosmetics. Almost everything is a dollar. That new lip-pumping lipstick? $1. Foundation? $1. Makeup brushes? $1. Nail polish? $1.  A friend told me about it (Hi, Dayna!) and I’ve been using it ever since.

Its really real. And I’ve bought stuff from here two or three times, both make-up and brushes, and I’ve been really happy with it. (Its not Chanel, but hey – the price is right!) I just bought this and this. And this.

at what age…

…can you give kids gum? Because I think that three and a half is too young. Big Sister had her first piece of gum today. After me saying 87 times “Don’t swallow, just chew it!” she put it in her mouth and chewed. I kept saying “Don’t swallow, don’t swallow!” And then she said “Ta-DA! I swallowed it!!” Okay. Let’s try again. Swallowed again.

Not ready for that yet, I guess.

This morning, Husband and I felt so tired and sick, that we went to church just so we could throw the kids in the nursery and have some peace and quiet. Was that bad? Do you think God minded? Seriously, we needed the break. Husband was so out-of-it that he drove right past the church.

Last night, we were so tired that we couldn’t think of anything to have for dinner. So we went to the nearest place – Taco Bell. It was totally disgusting. Seriously. Not just “eww-toxic-hell” disgusting. But seriously inedible. My Husband couldn’t even finish. My Husband. Who never wastes food. nev. er.  We will not be going there ever. again.

Also, if you want to really scare your kids straight, take them to a Taco Bell on a Saturday night and tell them if they don’t shape up, that’s where they’ll be working someday.

Today I have dropped several things on the floor. Including: dinner. a bowl of ice cream (which landed upsidedown). Little Sis’s drink.  Tomorrow I will be washing the floor, I guess. I need to lay off the DayQuil me thinks. Speaking of overly potent ‘Quils, I wasn’t thinking last night and took 2 NyQuils. I usually just take one. I don’t remember anything between 10pm and 8am. Seriously.

We found out we’re going to the shore in June – to Ocean City. FUN!!

This is the suckiest cold ever. I still feel like crap and need to nap every few hours in order to function. Ugh. This must be better by Wednesday when Husband goes out of town again or I’m toast…

is it monday yet?

Seriously. Husband and I are still sick, although due to massive quantities of Dayquil, we are functioning somewhat. We’ve been taking turns sleeping all day. I’m very rarely a non-functioning sick person, but today I am. Ugh.

I honestly think this is one of the hardest times to be a parent – when I’m sick. I just want to sleep. I’m so tired. I feel like crap. I look like crap. But, my kids need food. And they feel fine and have their usual tons of energy.  They need attention. And baths. And want to go play outside. And when did they get so frickin’ loud? And, naturally, when we’re sick, they feel compelled to be near us constantly. And by near, I mean in my lap. Or in the bed.  (Little Sis is in my lap right now, in fact.)
I just want to curl up under the covers, stay in bed all day and sleep, read and drink tea. Its so hard to have to get up and take care of other people. This is one of those days I longingly remember those days before kids, when I only had to take care of me.  Okay. Enough whining. Sleep will help.
p.s.
Husband is in the ER with his dad, who just sliced through his finger with a circular saw this afternoon. Exciting weekend in our house, no?

sick

Husband and I are both sick with major colds. Kids are feeling great and are not at all interested in watching tv while we doze on the couch. Figures. They’d love to do that every other day….
Poor Husband got home last night at 3am from Houston, a mere 7 hours late. Had a fun flight adventure involving canceled flights, mechanical trouble, a missing full-scale model of the human torso and a snowstorm.  So not only is the poor bloke sick, but he’s sick on only 4 hours sleep. The girls were so excited to see him that they wouldn’t let him sleep in. Then he had to go in to work for a cadaver lab, which I’m sure is even more fun when you’re feeling like crap already. (barf)
I’m going to try and get Little Sis to watch another video while I huddle under a quilt, shivering and sniffling. Ooo – I’ll warm it up in the dryer, per Michelle’s suggestion.
Wish me luck.
