getting gorgeous!

I had an amazing time at the Getting Gorgeous event at BlogHer last summer. It was probably my favorite party I attended (and I attended a lot o’ parties!) So I immediately signed up when Audrey and Vera announced their April 2011 event in NYC. The event was this past Saturday, and was a blast. Shannon from Philly Burb Moms and I caught the train together and then discovered a bunch of other Philly Social Media Moms on our train! (Let the chatting begin!)

I immediately found Jo-Lynne and we worked the room and visited with the various vendors, hoping to make connections for All Things Chic. (You read All Things Chic, right?)

We chatted for a bit with Liz Lange and Jane Wagman of Shopafrolic (Liz Lange! SQUEE!) who were both positively delightful.

I’m pretty sure we were chatting about shoes. Or world peace. But probably shoes.

It was a fabulous opportunity for networking and making connections. There were so many great brands represented  – and of course Audrey and Vera pulled off an amazing party! (The girls from  Tide To Go loved my story about how we cleaned up my sister-in-law’s wedding dress with one!)     That was one fabulous group of ladies in that room! Not to mention a ton from Philly!

Love these gals! (photo by Jessica)

It was a great event! Can’t wait for the next one!

try this: GRILLING

Yesterday it was warm. And sunny. And we hauled out the grill for the first time all year and grilled up a TON! So we have meat grilled for just about the whole week now – and I even was able to planned out enough to do a Meal Plan Monday Tuesday!

Monday: Everything Burgers, sweet potato fries

Tuesday: Penne alla Norma with grilled chicken

Wednesday: leftovers (soccer practice begins! Yay!!)

Thursday: Tequila Lime Chicken, black beans with guacamole and chips. Perhaps a margarita.

Friday: Not sure – I'm heading to the Farmer's Market Friday, so we'll see what looks good!

blues or reds?

We're re-doing our family room and finally getting a real couch.
*cue angels singing*
We're replacing the futon that I had in my college dormroom that has served as our family room couch for the past 10 years. Which is not too shabby for a cheapy futon from Value City that I think we bought for like $100. I'm so excited. But now I can't decide which direction to go in. The walls are staying yellow, since painting again would be a nightmare – we'd have to paint the kitchen and dining room too! So I'm just picking accent colors.

So do you like blues:

Or multi-colored? (mostly reds and oranges)

What do you think??

inspiration – 4.3

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
   a broken and contrite heart
   you, God, will not despise.

Psalm 51: 16-17

Jo-Lynne inspired me to make this Sausage Scramble for dinner this week during our pajama day. Huge hit. HUGE. You'll love it. (Her picture, not mine. We ate too fast.)

SimpleMom is hosting Project:Simplify at her place right now.  It’s not a quest to create a perfectly clean house.  It’s about creating an intentional, organized, uncluttered space.  WHICH I NEED RIGHT NOW. It’s not too late to join in and tackle your hot spots in your home. For me? Its the washing machine in the mudroom and my desk. Stuff just multiplies there – I don't even know where it comes from.

fashion friday: the little white dress

Last week we discussed the little black dress. And despite the fact that it is snowing IN APRIL, we are going to discuss one of spring’s hottest trends today: The Little White Dress.

If I was going to buy one little white dress this year, it would be the Wilma Eyelet Dress by Lilly Pulitzer. I tried this on at the Lilly Pulitzer store opening I went to last month and it was FANTASTIC. It looked amazing! (And one of my friends tried on the Shayna Lace Dress and it was totally adorable as well.)

The Cecilia Dress from J Crew is gorgeous as well. Very classic – you could wear this anywhere.

I love this one from White House Black Market. Its so sweet. Its a very conservative cut, but still very sexy.  I love the black accessories.

For a more casual look, the Sleeveless Empire Waist Dress by Lands End Canvas is simply sweet.  This cut is perfect for emphesizing your arms and chest while hiding your tummy. I love the dash of color at the waist and the price – just $69!

And what would say summer more than a white, flowing maxi dress like this one by Tommy Bahama?

playing hooky

Today we're all exhausted.

Its a rainy, cold day. Ellie just has a half day of school and Gracie doesn't have school at all. The only other thing on our list is to meet a friend for coffee this morning.

Nice.

As soon as Ellie gets home at noon, we're all going back in our jammies. Becuase today seems like the perfect day to hang out, watch movies, bake cookies, take naps, and read books.

And we'll certainly need to have some serious car races.

try this: banana bread

We came home from the wedding to find a ton of very brown bananas in the fruit bowl. But we were not sad. Becuase brown bananas mean….

Banana Bread!

DSC_0007
5 1/3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/3 c all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 c mashed very ripe banana (about 2)
1/2 c coarsely chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350. Grease an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pan.

Whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
Mix butter and sugar together in high speed until light and fluffy, two or three minutes. Beat in the flour mixture in low speed until blended and the consistency of brown sugar. Gradually beat in eggs. Fold in bananas and walnuts with spatula until just combined.
Scrape batter into pan and spread evenly. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 50-60 minutes. Let cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before taking out of pan to cool completely.
