I wore this on a busy day of errands, meetings and taking the kids to Chuck E. Cheese (gag). It was raining really hard, so I wanted to be warm and comfy. I just picked up this sweater at Old Navy – it was on super clearance and an additional 30% off, so it ended up being like $7. The necklace was also on clearance for $3. I loved the warm colors and that its bold, but not bulky.
I’ve been dying to try a denim on denim look with a chambray shirt… but worried about looking either too 1987 or too country. So I paired my shirt with dark trouser jeans, heels and piled on the jewelry. What do you think?

You may have noticed I have been drooling over a certain sweater from Free People. Since I mentioned it here. And here. And here. Well, it just showed up on Gilt. For like half off! That’s what you call Christmas money well spent right there. The necklace is the same one in the picture above – it has a removable locket, which I just love!
These fashion posts are really popular. But I confess… I HATE taking those pictures of myself. I usually manage to take them while everyone is out of the house. There’s a reason for that.
1. If my husband is around, he’ll usually make comments like “Work it, Work it! You’re a tiger! RAWR!” in an Austin Powers accent. Which usually result in pictures like this:
2. If my cats are around, they will insist in being in every picture. Which usually results in pictures like this:
3. If my kids are around, they make lots of comments. I can’t imagine where they learned to do that. Then the cat will jump in, too! Which usually results in pictures like this:
4. Or sometimes they’ll just walk through the picture, totally unaware of what is going on.
5. Sometimes, my pictures get hijacked completely:
It has been more crazy than normal around here the past few weeks. First we had the holidays. Then the kids got the stomach bug. Then we took a trip up to Boston for grandma’s funeral. Then Colin got sick again.
Its been fun on top of fun with a cherry on top, folks.
But, I’m so excited to share that All Things Chic has been redesigned! I’m so so excited. My co-founder and BFF Jo-Lynne decided to step down at the end of 2011 (the craziness is contagious, you see) so I’ve been running things, redesigning and mixing things up a bit.
Which explains a bit why Girlymama as been a little dry lately. Sorry. I’m sure we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled chaos before you know it. It is us, after all. We can’t go too long without someone peeing on the iPad or something.
First off, click over and check out how pretty it is. I’m not biased. AT ALL.
Second, if you are a blogger, please consider joining our Chic Blogger Network! We’re starting a place where fellow fashiony bloggers can promote their posts for StumbleUpon, Pinterest, etc. I hope that it can be a Facebook community where we can support each other and share the love! I’ve discovered some amazing sites and even more amazing people through All Things Chic and I wanted to find a space where we could chat and share with like-minded bloggers. Check it out!
My post on How to Wear a Statement Necklace on my fashion blog this week got me thinking… can you really have too many statement necklaces??? (hint: the answer is always ‘no’ when I ask that…. unless I’m referring to something like ‘laundry.’)
Pricey, dreamy options:
I would never take this off all of October and November. Every fall day, I would wear this. Calico Corn Necklace, $68
If you’re anything like me, January means making your annual resolution to eat healthier. Once again, I’m back on the wagon, trying to shape up and eat better. I also gave up artificial sweeteners over the summer, so diet drinks are usually out for me.
So, I was excited to try Trop50, orange juice with 50% less sugar and calories and no artificial sweeteners. Trop50 is made with Stevia, which is actually a plant (whereas you don’t see aspartame plants 😉 I started using Stevia in my coffee in place of other sweeteners and was excited to see it is the sweetener used in Trop50.
Side-by-side with regular orange juice, you can taste a difference, of course. But Trop50 doesn’t taste watered down or overly sweet like some ‘diet’ drinks. I felt like it just wasn’t quite as think as regular OJ – it really tasted ‘lighter’. With only 50 calories in a 8 oz glass, that makes sense! Now I want to try some of the other versions available including pineapple mango and raspberry lemonade! YUM!
Trop50 True Resolutions celebrates the real reasons behind New Year’s resolutions. Share your secret motivation on the Trop50 facebook page and you’ll earn a coupon for $1 off Trop50 for yourself and 50¢ off coupons for up to 50 of your friends! And you submit a resolution or not, you can also enter a sweepstakes to win a $1,000 gift card. Hurry, ends 1/31/12!

On Thursday, we went up to Boston for my husband’s grandmother’s funeral. It was a miserable day – maybe 34 degrees and raining. So I ended up swapping out the booties for knee-high boots at the last minute so I wouldn’t freeze to death.
I picked up this sweater on clearance at Jennifer on the Avenue. It is SO CUTE! I love the bow and the color… plus its super warm. This will be showing up a lot, people! I added the blue shirt to give it a pop of color. I wore this to church on another super cold day when I wanted to be comfy but cute.

On Monday, I paired this fun striped tee shirt (which has quickly become one of my favorite shirts!) with the cape I haven’t worn in forever. When we left to go run errands, I remembered why I haven’t worn it in forever – you can’t really wear a cape under a winter coat. So I swapped out this cardigan and added this fun scarf I just picked up on clearance at Old Navy (for like $3) for a bit of bright on a rainy day.

We spent the weekend in Boston, saying goodbye to my husband’s grandma. It was an amazing weekend – she will be missed so very very much. His Grandma was such an incredible lady. And she loved her family deeply. So what better way to celebrate her life than having a weekend together chatting, playing games and having a massive snow fight?
