lunch at beach plum farm

One of the highlights of the Mom Blogger weekend in Cape May was getting to see Beach Plum Farm. Beach Plum Farm is owned by the Cape Resort group and provides their Cape May restaurants with fresh produce. Love. Love. LOVE. I am such a Localvore, this commitment to the Farm-to-Table concept just won me over completely. I so admire their commitment to this – I wish more restaurants were!  So, instead of a wordless wednesday, here are a few of my favorite pictures of the weekend.

Planted with summer crops like blueberries, asparagus, tomatoes and strawberries, along with a large perennial herb garden, the certified organic farm already supplies Cape Resorts Group’s restaurants with close to their 50% of seasonal produce. The Ebbitt Room’s chef, Lucas Manteca, looks forward to expanding with chickens and pigs next year.

Due to guests’ enthusiasm for the farm, organized bike tours are offered twice weekly in addition to the picnics, which hotel guests can reserve through the concierge for groups of six or more.

Speaking of lunch… this meal… this meal… (Hang on. Let me close my eyes and imagine I’m back there….) One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. In my top 10 for sure. Chef Lucas turned some fresh produce from the farm into a feast.

isn't it gorgeous?

oh, yum. words cannot describe....

Disclosure: This trip was sponsored by Cape Resort group and The Motherhood. I was provided with meals, accommodations and a spa treatment in order to appreciate the Congress Hall experience. All opinions are my own.

the wall. i have hit it.

Last week, before heading to Cape May, I went to the doctor. He thinks that I have Lyme’s again.  So I was put on antibiotics.

My body did not like the antibiotics. I was feeling incredibly nauseous whenever I took them, so I tried taking them with food, at different times a day… nothing was working. While they made the Lyme’s symptoms go away, they made me spent quite a bit of time lying down eating dry toast trying not to throw up.

So yesterday, we let them get out of my system. While I cared for someone else who was throwing up. Which I’m sure qualifies as “getting some rest,” like the doctor suggested. (WHY do they suggest that to moms? Seriously! Don’t they know moms can’t be sick?)  Anyway, they gave me new meds that I was able to take last night. Hopefully these will do the trick.

But meanwhile, I can barely type. My hands and arms are aching so very badly and I am totally exhausted. And its the last week of school and dance recital week, so our schedule is insane.

Like I said, moms can’t be sick. I hope this passes quickly.

bliss interrupted

This past weekend, I spent 48 hours in a state of bliss…

surrounded by beauty…

Getting pampered…

I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

But for now, I’m focusing on my kids. Who started throwing up last night.

Welcome home, Mom.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

fashion friday: bathing suits when you’re tiny on top

I recently had a friend beg me to do a post on bathing suits for small chested women. I’m one too, so I understand the challenges. But we should be thankful – we can actually pull off a lot of styles that our busty friends can’t. There are some great tricks to making the most of what you have!

First off, a few things to avoid:

cups that are not filled out? not flattering

no padding at all... not flattering!!

So lets talk about what IS flattering…

1. Halter tops: I highly recommend a halter top. You get good coverage and the deep v-neck really enhances what you have.

2. Ruffles and Ruching: Add volume where there is none.

Ruffled bandeau bikini top by Old Navy, Ruched banded bandeau tank by J Crew, Ruched swing tank top by J Crew, Isabella by MiracleSuit, Ruffled Wrapped Halter Suit by Anthropologie. Mossimo Tankini Top by Target

3. Patterns: Use patterns as your friend! Draw attention and create curves!

Lipton 100% Natural Teas

You may have been reading about the recent changes I’ve made to our diet. Like cutting out High Fructose Corn Syrup and Food Dyes and switching to more organic foods. Well, my next big step was to give up soda. My kids don’t drink soda. But I love it. I would drink one soda with my lunch. I loved that soda. Of all the changes in diet we’ve made, that has been the hardest for me. I miss soda. But when this arrived in the mail, I cheered up a bit:

I jumped at the chance to try out the new line of Lipton 100% Natural Iced Teas. A way to get my shot of caffeine with simple, all-natural ingredient list! We were going camping for the weekend, so I stocked my cooler with all 6 flavors.  My husband and I tried out all of them.

We loved them all. By far our favorites were the two new flavors – the Green Tea with Passionfruit Mango with the Iced Tea with Pomegranate Blueberry being a close second. Everyone who was with us tried them too and was raving about how good they were. The diet flavors, Diet Green Tea with Watermelon and Diet Green Tea with Citrus, were also good, but both we definitely preferred the regular flavors. I love that companies like Lipton are going more natural and are providing their customers with such healthy options!

Lipton is celebrating the Natural Side of Music with Pandora:

“We created 100% Natural Lipton Iced Tea because we believe that the ultimate iced tea refreshment starts with great tea and simple, natural ingredients,” says Mary Barnard, Vice President and General Manager of the Pepsi Lipton Tea Partnership. “You could say the same is true with an acoustic performance that showcases the raw and natural talent of a musical artist. PANDORA internet radio is a great partner for this summer-long program that encourages consumers to express individuality through their tea and music preferences.”
Fans can interact with the natural elements of music on Lipton PANDORA internet radio stations to cater to their
musical preferences. Stations include Lipton Pop, Lipton Country, Lipton Rock and Lipton Hip-Hop.

How fun is that?? Check out their Facebook page for more details!!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Gen-Yknot on behalf of Lipton and received Lipton product samples and a subscription to Pandora One to facilitate my candid review. Gen-Yknot also sent me a promotional item to thank me for my time.

try this: camping potatoes

We call these camping potatoes. Because we make them camping. But they’re really just breakfast potatoes. But everything tastes better when you’re camping, right?

Camping Potatoes

diced potatoes (as many as you need – i think we used 8)
one onion diced
diced pepper (we used about half yellow, orange and green each)
seasoned salt
olive oil

Toss potatoes and onion with olive oil in a preheated skillet. TOss frequently. After  a bit add peppers. When potatoes are getting soft, add seasoned salt to taste. (We like quite a bit.) Eat with fried eggs and bacon in front of the fire while sipping coffee.

Camping breakfasts are the best!

to the frazzled mom in trader joes

We made eye contact across the aisle, as you were trying to simultaneously pick up your toddler who was throwing a fit and calm the crying newborn in your cart.

I gave you that small smile that made you look away from me, embarrassed.  I was the woman in the store looking very put-together, having just come from a meeting, with no children with me. And you were so frazzled, trying to control your kids. You obviously hadn’t showered. You looked so embarrassed. And so very tired. You looked like I made you feel bad about yourself.

And I’ve been in your shoes – getting looked as my kids freak out. Feeling judged as a bad mom, practically hearing them think “My kids would never act like that.” Feeling frazzled and frumpy and embarrassed.

But I wasn’t judging you – I was remembering.

You see…

Monday, I was the mom who yelled at her kid for dropping a (full) bowl of cereal on the floor she had just cleaned.
Tuesday, I was the mom in the grocery store whose kids were arguing over who touched who as they begged loudly for cupcakes.
Wednesday, I was the mom who obviously hadn’t showered, running all over creation still in her workout clothes from that morning.
Thursday, I was once again that mom whose son was laying on the floor of Target crying because she wouldn’t buy him a toy.
Friday, I was so frazzled that I completely forgot a playdate I had scheduled and had to apologize to my daughter’s 6-year-old friend.

I was smiling because I totally, completely understood what you were feeling at that moment.

And I wished I could have told you that.

fashion friday: summer dresses

We skipped over spring and went straight to summer in Philly. (Help! I’m melting!) So I’ve been living in sundresses – my summer staple. So lets chat dresses.
I LOVE THE MAXIDRESS. Ironically, so does my daughter, Gracie. She now has like 4 and wears them constantly. I, on the other hand, only have two. One was adorable that I picked up on the Boden Warehouse sale and the first time I wore it, I spilled melted butter on it. Which is why YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR AN APRON, MY FRIENDS. Get a cute one. You’ll thank me.

$99 on Zappos

This strapless maxi dress from Jessica Simpson is gorgeous. This could go from backyard barbeque to a wedding with just a change of accessories.

$47.99 from ModCloth

I’m in love with this one. The color. The ruffles. Must have this See The Sights Dress by ModCloth.

$76 by Shabby Apple

Okay. I KNOW its summer. but HOW cute is this dress!?!?! And those red shoes!

$138 at Lord and Taylor

This neckline is so sweet. The cut on this dress is gorgeous – I feel like the plaid would be very flattering.

$49.50 from LOFT

If I was going to wear tie dye, it would be with this dress. So cute!! (And it has a ruffle 😉

$24.99

I love this dress from Target – although I’d replace that fabric belt with a wide brown one. And add these wedge sandals.
