best of beauty :: dry shampoo

I was recently quoted in a Parenting.com article about how much I adore dry shampoo.

If you’ve never tried it, you really must. It is a busy mom’s best friend! Just spray on, let it absorb for a bit and brush it out.  Its sooo easy and is a lifesaver when you need to look good, but don’t have time for a shower and blowdry. My favorite is Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo. For my smooth, straight hair, this is simply the best! (Curly girls may argue 😉  I prefer Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion to other dry shampoos I have tried – I had much better results with this one. Maybe its the “Keralock™  Technology” that contains keratin and absorbs oils? Whatever it is, this product has something different. This product costs about $1 more than Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo, and I think it is worth the extra dollar!

Its so easy to use – watch my tutorial I did for my fashion blog and see for yourself!

they wait till you’re too tired to argue

Its been a crazy two weeks.

Actually, its been a crazy six weeks!

  • Husband was gone most of March.
  • Colin turned 4!
  • We went to Ohio for a week.
  • Family came to Philly for a week to stay.
  • We saw Valley Forge Park, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and so many more Philly landmarks.
  • We had a huge Easter dinner!
  • I still managed to work though out that while time. Sort. Of.

Anyway, by Friday I found myself sick and exhausted and looking forward to a weekend of quiet.

Then they found a salamander in the backyard.

And, despite my saying many, many times that there was no way in YOU KNOW WHAT it was coming into the house….

His name is Bob.

Hold me.

what i wore

On Wednesday, I was at my mom’s house. Kept it simple and comfy! I paired my favorite red jeans with a comfy tee and cardigan. I think it looks great with the Ella Vicker’s Tote, right?

Saturday we headed to Valley Forge Park to hike around and see the historical sights. I kept it comfy with jeans and sneakers and had to bundle up in my ruffled pea coat.

Easter Sunday was unexpectedly gorgeous! I celebrated by wearing my new lace pencil skirt I picked up at the LOFT outlet and a ruffled blouse with python heels.
Please notice how awesome my new doormat is. Isn’t it CUTE?!!?

Tuesday we headed into Philly for some sightseeing! Here I am outside Independence Hall in my flare jeans and sneakers (again) and striped shirt and cape. Perfect for keeping off the chill when the wind blew!

preserving my treasures with guardsman

You know how they ask, “If your house was on fire, what would you grab on the way out?” My list is probably pretty typical. My kids (obviously), my cats, and my piano.
Okay, ‘piano’ is probably not typical.

But my piano is one of my most treasured possessions.

It looks like a regular piano, but its irreplaceable to me. Because of this:

That’s my grandpa! My piano was hand-built by my grandfather. I will never be able to replace this heirloom. I love having it in my home. My father found it, drove it down from Connecticut  and gave it to us for Christmas a few years ago. I was so surprised!  I love listening to my daughter practice her piano lessons on it every morning. I love telling people the story behind it.  Its the centerpiece of our living room. It holds the tublas that my brother-in-law gave us as a wedding gift. Under the bench is the antique oriental carpet we got from my husband’s grandmother.

This whole area of our home is special. And I want to preserve it. I’ve been using Guardsman Revitalizing Wood Furniture Polish for a few weeks and its had an amazing effect on the piano! The wood had been looking really dull, but now it is shining! LOVE it! Its even making the scratches in the bench less noticeable. I really feel like the wood is getting mositurized with Guardsman and preserved better than with just the microfiber cloth I’ve been using.

Guardsman is launching the Stop Cleaning, Start Caring campaign, to encourage us to stop just cleaning our furniture. It’s more than dusting and polishing, it’s about nourishing, revitalizing and bringing out furniture’s inner beauty. If I just cleaned my piano, it wouldn’t last! I need to care for this treasured piece, preserving it for my children. Guardsman has a whole arsenal of products to allow you to preserve your furniture. To kick off the campaign,  Guardsman is donating $25,000 to Habitat for Humanity!! How awesome is that? You can share your favorite furniture story on Guardsman.com and TV Design Star Tracy Hutson will select one lucky winner to receive a personal design session in their home. This includes a $1500 room re-accessorizing and shopping experience, plus a suite of Guardsman products! You can enter here!

Good luck!
disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Guardsman Furniture Care and received a Guardsman product and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

fashion friday: spring break!

We’re on spring break this week. We’re in Ohio, which is actually pretty darn far from a beach, but we’re having fun nonetheless.

Lets pretend I went somewhere exotic and got to lay on a beach sipping a margarita. Wearing this:

HOW cute would that be with my coral swimsuit? I KNOW!

Since I’m imaging this vacation, I can imagine that I can afford this dress. this would be perfect for sightseeing around my imaginary exotic location.

and this one, too. i would wear this on my imaginary dinner date on my imaginary vacation.

Oh. My. Goodness. LOVE THIS! I would wear this on my imaginary plane ride to my imaginary destination with white jeans.

And here are my imaginary shoes. Hello, gorgeous.
Sigh. If only my imaginary vacation could be real. (And my imaginary clothing budget!)

my week in instagram

my ellie had her third grade concert.

then gracie had her writer’s celebration! she wrote a book about ballet – so so adorable.

then my husband came home after traveling a ton.
