this is going to last forever, right?

My girls have been fighting all day.
Over Colin.
"Mommy, she always gets to play with the baby!" (said very pitifully through tears by Ellie)
"Mommy, its my turn to play with him!" (yelled across the room by Grace)

Remind me of this is about a year when he is constantly getting into all their stuff, driving them crazy and they want me to lock him in his room.

i certainly do have my hands full

Last night, Husband mowed the lawn and I took the three kiddos to the grocery store.
Ellie and Grace were riding in one of those car shopping carts and Colin was in the Baby Bijorn. I had promised the kids that if they were very, very good, they could have ice cream when we got home. And they were being quite well behaved, although not terribly quiet. Colin was babbling to no one in particular and the girls were singing songs as they pretended to drive through the grocery store.
Going in to the store, a lady said "Wow! You’ve got your hands full there!" (Smile, nod, agree)
While picking out bananas, another lady said, "You’ve really got your hands full!" (Yup! I do!)
While steering over to get some tomatoes, a man said, "You’ve got your hands full!"
Hummmm… I’m sensing a pattern. Maybe I should keep track…

FOUR MORE PEOPLE told me I had my hands full.

I kid you not.

One lady even told me that she was going to tell her daughter about me. Because her daughter is expecting her second and can’t imagine how she is going to handle two. So she is going to call her daughter and tell her about the lady she saw in the grocery store with THREE. She then proceeded to tell me that I was handling it beautifully, so that made me feel a little bit better.
Like that maybe people weren’t saying that because they thought I looked completely crazy, but maybe just because I was steering a bus-like grocery cart filled with food and singing kids with a drooly baby strapped to my chest through the store.
Imagine if they had seen me on a bad day, when the baby is screaming, the kids are whining for a snack or a drink or whatever and I’m completely frazzled 😉

We’re home from Connecticut.

Had great time, saw tons of family, got great pictures that I’m dying to share.

But I can’t today, due to being buried under a huge pile of laundry, having zero food in our fridge and – oh yeah – being dead tired.

Mainly due to Colin, who has decided he hates his new car seat with a passion.

But not helped by other two kids, who kept helpfully yelling "MOM! COLIN’S CRYING!!!" or – even more helpfully – "DAD!! TURN UP BLUE’S CLUES BECAUSE WE CAN’T HEAR IT WITH COLIN SCREAMING SO LOUD!!!!!"

Needless to say, Husband and I are a tad wiped out after pulling into our driveway around 11 last night.

I am functioning on Advil and coffee today, with a dose of red wine scheduled for around 8pm when the kids go to bed.

I’m going to go try and sneak in a nap before Colin wakes up….

surprises

I have been sooo busy this week between VBS and the other thing.

"Other thing" being that We’re in Connecticut! What? Surprise! We came up with our kiddos to see my grandparents and visit the family. Grandpa had no idea we were coming and he reads my blog, so I couldn’t write about it!

I’m so excited to show my kids around Grandma and Grandpa’s farm – I have such wonderful memories from my childhood here. I’m sure we’ll get some great pictures! After I’ve recovered from VBS. Phew.

Here’s Colin and his Great-Grandpa a few months ago. How great is it that my kids have met their GREAT grandparents? I think that is so special.

Yay for my brother-in-law who is home on leave — Surprise!! We weren’t expecting to see him until around December sometime. But you know the Army – they get to do whatever they want to, so that date was fairly soft. As in "Maybe-December-but-possibly-anytime-between-November-and-January. Or-maybe-never-just-because-we-can." Anyway, he’s home! He was granted an 11-day leave, so he’s back in the States! Whoo-hoo!! We get to see him next weekend.

I don’t have any other surprises, really. But I wanted to do more than two. Humm…
Oh! I got decked by a kid in VBS this week. Smack! Right in the head. Boy, was I surprised! I actually had a headache afterward.
I totally was trying not to laugh. You should have seen his face after he did it. It was like "Ut-oh. I’m toast." Hee hee. So we had a nice talk about not hitting, being loving, blah blah blah. He was like, "I’m sorry, I’m sorry, just pleeze don’t tell my mom!"
Things like this always make me wonder what my kids do when I’m not around. Heck, they do stuff like that when I’m standing right there. Goodness knows what they get up to when I’m not!!

THUMP

Guess what baby fell off the bed?

I know, I know… it happens to everyone. You turn your back for a second… I was totally within an arm’s reach, too… But THUMP! Down he went, screaming his head off and freaking out as I smothered him with kisses saying "I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m so sorry!" over and over and over.

He’s totally fine, but I need to cuddle him and work off some of my mommy guilt.

At least he doesn’t have a concussion like a certain other child I know who took a head-first dive. Out of a shopping cart onto a cement floor. Ahem.
