countdown….

48 hours from now I will be in San Diego! With my husband! And my kids will be in Philly! 3,000 miles away!!

hee hee hee

Despite the fact I have approximately eleventy-zillion things to do before we leave and despite the fact I have been feeling the sickest I have felt with this pregnancy the last two days… I’m still really excited to get away for our first romantic getaway in 3 years!!

I’m even looking forward to the plane ride. Because I will be alone. By myself. With no one to take care of. And probably hopped up on Dramamine 😉

Its a little crooked, but that blob in the middle there is our baby! The girls were sooooo excited to see a picture of the baby, but I think it wasn’t quite what they were picturing 😉
I even forgot to feel sick for a minute when I watched that little tiny heart beating! If you look really close you can see the little arms and legs forming. So exciting!

i’m not looking forward to this

I just dragged my maternity clothes out of the attic to see what I had up there.

I forgot how much I hate those clothes. Seriously. They are u-g-l-y.

I think I may need to go shopping and raid some friend’s attics. What a coincidence that this week Old Navy has 25% off maternity! Its a sign! Straight from God! Ahem.

update***
So I bought this (on sale for $7) and this in “Guava” in an effort to not buy everything in black. Cute, I guess. But I agree with fuzzynotions, that I will probably look like a whale who ate a watermelon anyway, so I’m really just postponing the inevitable by trying to look all cute 😉 Well, off to my first OB appointment! Joy!

pet peeves

I’ve been tagged by DCRmom for a clothing meme.  I’m supposed to name five of my clothing pet peeves.1) Pants with pleats.  Not a good look for anyone. Add tapered legs and watch me gag.

2) When you buy something super cute, wear it, wash it… and its never the same again. Clothing needs to be washable!! Hello!

3) Maternity pants with panels that reach up to your neck. And maternity shirts that aren’t long enough. I end up wearing a large to cover my belly, but then they rest of the shirt is ridiculously huge.

4) Visible underwear. Th0ngs peeking out of jeans. Straps peeking out of shirts. And good heavens, black bra under a white shirt?!? Seriously!??!?!

5) Designers who are trying to bring back 80s fashion. Can we all just agree it was an unfortunate mistake and move on??

Okay, now it’s your turn.  Share.  What are your clothing pet peeves???  I tag fancythis, lemons, Beth.  And anyone else who wants to play!

my baby

I can’t believe that you are three years old already. It seems like just yesterday we found out you were coming. I still remember talking to a friend over lunch, saying how weird it was that I had only gotten my period once since I had Ellie. How weird it was that it started and stopped again. And my dear friend looking at me and saying, “I think you might want to take a pregnancy test.” “No,” I said. “I could possibly be….” And seven months later here I was!

We were so excited to meet you, although you threw us for a loop when you were a month early and weren’t the baby boy we were expecting. Your name was “Baby Girl” for the first few days of your life, as Mommy and Daddy tried to decide what to call you. I remember holding you for only a minute when you were just born, before you were whisked away from me when I was aching to hold you.

I still don’t remember the first few months of your life very well. With an 18-month-old and a newborn, and Daddy working and going to school, I just vaguely remember being really, really tired. And wondering if I would ever sleep again.

But you got big so quickly. You were walking before you were a year old, determined to keep up with your big sister. You grew up so fast, refusing to be left behind.

I love your heart. I love how sweet you are. I love how you smile and blow kisses at complete strangers, causing even the grumpiest-looking old man in the grocery store to be blowing kisses back. I love how you are so completely girly and never let a day go by when you don’t dress up like the princess you are. I love that you still love to cuddle. I love how you pray for everyone you know, even though it takes a long time. I love how you love to be my big helper and even enjoy helping me clean the bathrooms. I love your independence. I love how you kiss my belly and talk about our baby already. I love being your mama.

on your mark, get set…

This week is going to be completely and utterly crazy. Ellie starts preschool tomorrow and Tuesday, Gracie goes to school. My baby is starting school!! I can’t think about it much because I am torn between joy and excitement for her and sobbing that she is so big. I also start Bible Study. And tomorrow us girls start ballet. (Gracie and I are in Mommy and Me Ballet.) And two of us have doctors appointments.

So, naturally, Husband will be out of town almost all week, but then I’ll be joining him in San Diego for a little romantic getaway. Well, a getaway. I already warned him that I may be sleeping most of Saturday 🙂

Grace is now obsessed with my belly. She keeps kissing it, covering it up with her blankey to keep the baby warm, playing peek-a-boo with the baby… Its all very adorable, but may get old on about 6 months. And we need to talk about “appropriate places to lift Mommy’s shirt up.” Church not being one of them.

Speaking of disasters, did anyone catch Britney Spears big comeback performance tonight? I couldn’t resist, I just had to watch. Painful. Painful!!!!

boy, did that make me feel young!!

Yesterday and today I went with my mom and some of my aunts to the Quilt Extravaganza in Harrisburg, PA. Not a “Quilt Show” or “A Quilt Expo” — a Quilt Extravagnza. That made me giggle every time I passed a sign. (Some people are really serious about their quilting, folks, and its a bad idea to make fun of them when they can hear you.) Also taking place in the same building was the Gun Expo, so you can imagine how many men were looking at quilts. Approximately 6.

I was definitely on the young side of the average age, which led to a few awkward attempts at flirtation by nerdy male vendors which make me torn between wanting to run away and hide behind my mom and laughing in their face while telling them I’m actually not only married but pregnant. (What a catch I am!)

I was for some strange, odd reason drawn inexplicably to everything baby. Hum. I got things to make two girly quilts and two boy quilts. I’ll post pics tomorrow, because they are awfully cute. One of the girl quilts will be using ric-rac. Hee hee.

I also splurged on little ol’ me and bought a bag pattern and fabric. Now this is strange because 1) I never make things for myself. 2) I never follow directions. Therefore patterns are usually a waste of time for me. But I am determined to challenge myself by doing what I daily challenge my kids to do: follow directions.
swing_pattern_cover_med.jpg ‘Cause I think this is really cute. Especially the bow. I’m sure I could improve it, but I’m really going to try to control myself. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
