we’re ok!

We made it through Sandy with minimal damage. Our swing set was damaged and our yard is a total mess, but its really not too bad!

Luckily, we didn’t lose any trees this time around and our power even stayed on except for a few blinks.

We’ve been watching in horror as our favorite spots for vacation on the Jersey Shore have been ruined. Its heartbreaking. We have so many friends who have homes there and they are worried about if their house is even still there.

Hope everyone else is ok. Nothing like a storm like this to remind you what matters.

fashion friday: rain boots!

I have a wonderful picture of fall in my head… skinny jeans tucked into stylish boots paired with a sweater coat and maybe a scarf… But the reality is usually more rain boots and less suede!  Not that rain boots can’t be totally adorable! NO INDEED!!

Get something fun from Target. ($29)

Or something classic, like Kamik. ($50)

Then there’s the classic. The original. Hunter. ($135)

Or… splurge. On Burberry. ($295)

And the best part? Buy a pair of boot liners and Voila! Your rainboots turn into to warm winter boots! What are you waiting for? Go get some!

chatting with friends

A few months ago, our bestest friends moved to Greece.

The good thing is that we now have a reason to visit Greece!

The bad thing is that we miss them terribly. I’m still in that stage where I pick up my phone and start to call her and remember she’s probably sleeping… And my girls are struggling and really, really miss their friends. They keep asking to visit them, not really having any idea how far it is.

But they still get to chat!

Their video chats are hysterical. Especially when Colin and their 3-year-old are talking a mile a minute to each other and no one else even knows what they are saying! Thank goodness for Skype!

potty training made easier? yes!

I potty trained all of my kids in about a day. Yes. Really.
Its a method presented in the book Toilet Training in Less Than a Day and it actually works!

One of the best ways to learn something is to teach someone else to do it. And this applies to potty training as well! This method has kids train a doll to use the potty. By training the doll to go potty, children are learning themselves. Meet Emma:
What makes the Emma and Paul (male version of the Corolle potty dolls) truly unique is the fact they are anatomically correct. Truly, these Corolle Potty Training dolls really do show a realistic rendering of the private parts for both little girls and little boys along with being able to drink a bottle of water and then pee pee on the potty. To make your doll go pee-pee on the potty, just feed your doll about 1/2 a bottle of water by squirting the bottle into the doll’s mouth while she or he is laying on their side. Then, turn the doll upright, pull down the panties and squeeze the dolls belly while they are sitting over the toilet.

These Corolle Potty Training Dolls make a great gift for any potty training toddler or preschooler and are highly recommended by Potty Training experts at Potty Training in Less than a Day too. Priced at about $45 these are fun to play with far after the potty training stage is over, given how fascinated kids are with everything potty, and its perfect for bringing in the bath and they fit perfectly into the 14-inch Corolle doll clothes!

Disclosure: I’m a brand ambassador for Corolle this holiday season. These samples were provided to us to facilitate our reviews. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

owl banding

Remember when we went bird banding last month? This month they had a special evening of owl banding for the kids! WOOT if you absolutely love baby owls!!

I want a pet owl now…..

The girls report that the owls are softest thing you’ve ever felt – even softer than their cats! But watch out, they bite!

This is such an amazing program -the “Discover the Forest’s Get Your Community Outdoors! Challenge, presented by the U.S. Forest Service, The Wilderness Society and the Ad Council is looking for ideas on how you can inspire your friends and neighbors to escape their stress and discover the great outdoors. One Grand Prize Winner will receive $1,000 to bring their idea to life as well as a $500 Frontier Airlines voucher to escape to the forest of their choice for a vacation. How amazing is that??

My idea is to give to sponsor field trips for children to go witness bird banding, learn about birds and learn what they can do to protect their habitats.

What is your idea to get your community outdoors?  Go enter it!
