alien encounter

So I’m sitting in Starbucks, trying to come up with something to blog about.
Think. Think. Think.
Ever heard of it? Starbucks?
The guy ordering apparently hasn’t. I can hardly believe my ears. Must document this.
He is talking to the employees about what to order.
Employee: “These are our cold drinks over here, these are the hot drinks. There’s also regular coffee, decaf coffee and tea.”
Man: “What is a ‘Mocha’?”
They are describing what a Frappucino is. And a latte.
Now he is asking how the latte is vanilla flavored. With vanilla extract or what?
Now the employee is showing him the vanilla syrup.
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Clearly – CLEARLY – this man is actually an alien from Neptune or something.

What other explanation could there possibly be for him not having a clue what Starbucks serves? You'd would have to try to be that ignorant about Starbucks! That's like going into McDonalds and asking what a Big Mac is.

More interestingly, what made this guy suddenly decide to go into this coffee shop and try out this "Starbucks" thing that's on every street corner?

inspiration – 1.25

You will say in that day:

"I will give thanks to you, O Lord,
for though you were angry with me,
your anger turned away,
that you might comfort me.
Behold, God is my salvation;
I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the Lord God is my strength and my song,
And he has become my salvation."

With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day:

"Give thanks to the Lord,
call upon his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples,
proclaim that his name is exhalted.
Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously;
let this be made known in all the earth.
Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
for great in your midst is is the Holy One of Isreal."

Isaiah 12:1-6

protecting my kids. from myself.

My kids are in their room, on their beds. Until further notice.

Because I am SO INCREDIBLY ANGRY at them right now.

They were supposed to be having rest time, which involves them sitting on their beds quietly reading books while listening to a cd.

I walked into the room after hearing a gigantic crash and discovered several things:

  • They had gotten out just about every little teeny-tiny toy they own and thrown it on the floor. I could hardly see the carpet. (Did I mention I spent ALL MORNING cleaning the house?)

  • They had destroyed the Playmobil castle I spent several hours putting together on Monday. Pieces everywhere.

  • Colin's bedroom door was opened. They had GONE IN COLIN'S ROOM AND CLIMBED IN HIS CRIB to get a blanket out. And surprise!! This woke him up! Imagine that!

  • And – are you ready? – Grace had TAKEN MY DIAMOND RING off  my nightstand and PUT IT ON HER BEANIE BABY. This I discovered while I was cleaning up the room and noticed something sparkly on a stuffed animal.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

In an effort to be a Godly parent, I made them clean up the toys. Then I placed them in their beds while I cleaned up the mess. And they are to stay in those beds until I tell them to get out. Then I walked out of the room and shut the door.
I haven't yelled at them. Or disciplined them. I'm too angry and I know I will say something I regret.
I may just let Husband deal with it when he gets home.
Lucky him.
I need to calm down. I honestly don't even know what to say to them. (She took my wedding ring? Seriously!?!?) Where do I even START?

Is it too early for a glass of wine and a bubble bath?

a social funk

Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 5 good friends that I really need to spend more time with, 5 more women I'd really like to develop deeper friendships with and countless acquaintances I could get to know better.

But I just don't have the time.

Life is so incredibly busy and exhausting these days. And by the time the weekend rolls around all I want to do is stay home, curl up in front of a movie with my family and, of course, sleep. Entertaining, as much as I love it, just isn't a priority lately. Especially when my husband travels during the week… weekends are treasured family time.

We still go out and see friends — and we're always have a great time and are happy that we did. But its hard to get motivated to go and be social. Especially to have people over here. Even playdates are annoying me lately. I'm such a Grinch! This is NOT normal for me. I love being social! What's wrong with me? Maybe its the freezing cold weather or something.

I'm going to make a goal of doing at least two social things every week. Meeting someone for coffee, having someone over for dinner, arranging a playdate for the kids, SOMETHING. Twice a week. Until I get out of my funk and back to my crazy-busy social self again.

my name’s hunter. bargain hunter.

If you have the time today, drop by Old Navy! Everything marked down is an additional 50% off and they have A-DOR-a-ble yoga outfits for super cheap.  I bought two pairs of these:

These would be yoga pants WITH POCKETS! WHY has no one thought of this before??
Got tons of stuff for the kiddos, like a winter coat for next year for Colin for like $4. Oh, yeah!

I got this sweater in a chocolate brown – only $4!! But I'm conflicted… what do you think? Keeper? Or is it too flow-y?

**************

Speaking of saving money, saving money is NOT what I did today in Michaels. Michaels is one of those stores where I really should  not go into without spousal supervision. (I can't have parental supervision, since my mom is as bad as me in that store.)  My great crafty ambitions get the better of me – not to mention the crafty projects I find for my kids – and the next thing I know, I'm in trouble.

Don't even get me started on the Martha Stewart aisle.

Let me just tell you what I put back:
yarn (Seeing as I've been knitting the same scarf for over a year, clearly I need more knitting projects…)
blank canvases (To create artwork for the kids rooms – they were 50% off!! Does it matter that I haven't decided what I'm doing in their rooms yet?)
pretty much the whole Crayola aisle
ribbon, ribbon, ribbon (Gosh, I love ribbon!! Can you really have too much ribbon?)
fabric markers (Not sure what for… they just sounded fun.)
make-your-own Valentine's Day cards (For the kids! REALLY!)
markers (Love markers almost as much as I love ribbon!)

What store should you not be shopping in unsupervised?
